 Defending Your Faith

Dr. David Platt, President of the IMB, is deeply devoted to Christ and His Word. David’s first love in ministry is making disciples, sharing, showing, and teaching God's Word in everyday life.

He has traveled extensively to serve alongside church leaders throughout the United States and around the world.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts, (B.A.) and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (A.B.J.) from the University of Georgia, and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Theology (Th.M.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He previously served at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary as the Dean of Chapel and Assistant Professor of Expository Preaching and Apologetics, Staff Evangelist at Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans, and eight years as the Senior Pastor of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL.

He is the founder of Radical, a resource ministry, dedicated to serving the church in making disciples of all nations.
David and his wife, Heather, have four children, Caleb, Joshua, Mara-Ruth, and Isaiah.

"Do you believe that Jesus is worth abandoning everything for?"

In Radical, David Platt invites you to encounter what Jesus actually said about being his disciple, and then obey what you have heard. He challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated a God-centered gospel to fit our human-centered preferences. With passionate storytelling and convicting biblical analysis, Platt calls into question a host of comfortable notions that are common among Christ's followers today. Then he proposes a radical response: live the gospel in ways that are true, filled with promise, and ultimately world changing.

What part of the Gospel is optional?

It’s easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily…

A call to die. A call to live.

You may think you're a Christian, are you sure? Jesus' call to follow is more than an invitation to pray a prayer. It is a summons to lose your life and find new life in him.

Pastor David Platt continues to challenge cultural Christianity in his newest follow-up to Radical

This book compels each one of us to examine the validity and vitality of our own personal faith. David's new book is a life and death message for all who claim the name of Christ.

Everywhere we turn, battle lines are being drawn—traditional marriage vs. gay marriage, pro-life vs. pro-choice, personal freedom vs. governmental protection.

Seemingly overnight, culture has shifted to the point where right and wrong are no longer measured by objective universal truth but by personal opinion.

And as difficult conversations about homosexuality, abortion, and religious liberty continue to inject themselves into our workplaces, our churches, our schools, and our homes, Christians everywhere are asking the same question: How are we supposed to respond to all this?

In Counter Culture, New York Times bestselling author David Platt shows Christians how to take a stand on issues as poverty, sex trafficking, marriage, abortion, racism, and religious liberty—and challenges us to become passionate, unwavering voices for Christ.

Drawing on compelling personal accounts from around the world, David presents an unapologetic yet winsome call for Christians to faithfully follow Christ into the cultural battlefield in ways that will prove both costly and rewarding.

The lines are drawn. The moment has come for Christians to rise up and deliver a gospel message that’s more radical than the most controversial issues of our time.
